GHO Emergency Medicine Professional Committee Established in Berlin, Germany

BERLIN — The founding conference of the GHO Emergency Medicine Professional Committee was held in Berlin, Germany. More than 220 experts in emergency medicine from 56 countries across the globe attended the event to witness the official launch of the committee.

The conference focused on the development of global emergency care systems, emergency management for disasters and public health emergencies, emergency workforce training, and the joint development of international clinical guidelines. Participants noted the rising frequency of acute injuries, disasters and health crises worldwide, together with wide disparities in emergency care capacity between nations. A regular international collaborative platform is urgently needed to share emergency medicine knowledge, standards and experience, and improve global outcomes for acute illness and trauma.

The Emergency Medicine Professional Committee of GHO will carry out four key missions: build a global network of emergency specialists for cross-border academic exchange; jointly develop clinical consensus and training programmes adaptable to countries with varying resource levels; deliver international emergency medical technical support during major disasters and mass casualty incidents; and foster collaborative research to accelerate translation and adoption of new emergency care technologies.

Its inaugural committee members include leading emergency medicine scholars from Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Headquartered in Berlin, the committee will work worldwide to advance equitable access to emergency care and strengthen global preparedness for sudden health threats.
