GHO Public Health Professional Committee Officially Established in London, UK, Gathering Over 380 Experts from 112 Countries

London — The inaugural meeting of the GHO Public Health Professional Committee was successfully held in London, United Kingdom, marking the official launch of the committee. More than 380 leading public health experts from 112 countries across the globe attended the hybrid in-person and online meeting to witness the foundation of the committee and discuss critical topics including global public health governance, infectious disease prevention, health equity, and emergency preparedness for public health incidents.

During the opening ceremony, representatives of the presidium delivered opening remarks, outlining the mission of the committee: to build a cross-border, interdisciplinary platform for global public health collaboration, pool expertise worldwide, narrow the capacity gaps in public health, advance multilateral health cooperation, and contribute to a global community of shared health for all.

Participants held parallel sessions and closed-door discussions on pandemic preparedness, strengthening primary public health systems, climate and health, digital public health, non-communicable disease control and other key topics. The assembly adopted the committee’s charter, governance structure and three-year work plan. The committee will carry out international academic exchanges, technical capacity building, policy advisory services, joint research and global health initiatives.

The inaugural meeting demonstrates a strong consensus among global public health professionals to unite and safeguard human health. Moving forward, the committee will continue to partner with health authorities, universities, research institutes and industry bodies worldwide to facilitate knowledge exchange and technical cooperation, providing professional support in tackling global public health threats.
