Health Academic Working Committee is a permanent core academic support institution under the leadership of the GHO Council. It provides independent and professional academic think tank support for GHO’s strategic planning, project implementation and standard formulation, coordinates the entire academic business system of GHO, and builds an interdisciplinary and cross-regional expert collaboration network in the field of global health. Adhering to the principles of evidence-based practice, openness and neutrality, the Committee links cutting-edge scientific research, public health practice and health policy translation, promotes the application of academic achievements, guides the academic development of GHO, and ensures the scientificity, professionalism and standardization of all GHO operational activities. Its main responsibilities are as follows:
1. Academic Strategic Planning
Identify frontier trends in global health development; organize the formulation of GHO’s medium- and long-term academic development plans and annual academic work plans. Sort out key research areas and academic topics covering global public health, clinical medicine, rehabilitation medicine, digital health, health equity and other fields, and submit strategic proposals to the Council.
2. Academic Exchange and Platform Development
Overall plan GHO’s international academic conferences, summit forums, thematic seminars and online academic salons. Initiate multilateral academic dialogues and build exchange and cooperation platforms for academic institutions, research teams and clinical experts. Promote regular academic activities carried out by regional academic branches.
3. Research Project Management and Achievement Translation
Organize project initiation demonstration, protocol review, process supervision and achievement acceptance for GHO’s independent research projects and joint research programmes. Promote multi-centre clinical studies, health surveys and synthesis of evidence-based data. Facilitate the translation of scientific research outcomes into health guidelines, industry consensus and practical solutions, and streamline the "research-evidence-application" pathway.
4. Review and Compilation of Standards, Consensus and Academic Documents
Take the lead in organising experts to formulate and revise expert consensus, technical specifications and practice guidelines related to global health. Conduct peer review and content validation for GHO proceedings, white papers, research reports and academic publications, and establish unified academic review standards.
5. Expert Think Tank and Talent Development
Build the GHO Global Expert Database; implement selection, appointment and dynamic management for academic committee members and invited experts. Identify young academic talents; organise academic training, scholar exchanges and youth scholar forums to foster an international talent pool for global health.
6. Academic Ethics and Research Integrity Development
Formulate GHO academic codes and academic ethical guidelines; receive applications for investigation and evaluation of academic disputes and academic misconduct, and safeguard a fair, rigorous, open and inclusive academic ecosystem.
7. External Academic Cooperation
Represent GHO in liaising with international academic societies, universities, research institutes, medical institutions and relevant international organisations. Negotiate matters including joint laboratory establishment, collaborative research, academic mutual recognition and co-publication, and expand the multilateral academic cooperation network.
8. Academic Review and Consultancy Services
Provide academic demonstration and technical consultation for special committees and secretariat projects of GHO. Undertake expert demonstration, special investigations and independent evaluations on major issues assigned by the Council.
9. Daily Operation and Reporting
Convene regular committee meetings; compile annual academic work summaries and plans for the subsequent year. Submit major academic matters and project progress reports to the GHO Council and Secretariat as required; complete other academic tasks assigned by the Council.
