Health science popularization working committee is a special working body under the GHO Council . It carries out health science popularization, public health education and knowledge communication independently under the leadership of the Council. Based on the development needs of global public health, the Commission builds an international collaborative network for health science popularization, bridging cutting-edge medical research and public understanding. It delivers standardized health science popularization for the general public, grassroots medical practitioners, young people and vulnerable groups worldwide, disseminates evidence-based and scientific health concepts, and combats pseudoscientific health information to help improve health literacy of people across the globe.  Its main responsibilities are as follows:

1. Strategic Planning and Policy Advice

Study trends of global health science popularization, formulate the medium- and long-term development plans and annual work plans for GHO’s health science popularization. Conduct research on health communication, governance of false medical information and cross-border health education, and put forward policy proposals and action plans to the Council.

2. Development of Popular Science Content and Standard Establishment

Organize global experts in medicine, public health, rehabilitation and preventive medicine  to develop multilingual, population-specific evidence-based health popular science materials. Participate in formulating review standards for health popular science content and ethical codes for popular science works, and establish a review mechanism to ensure scientific rigor of information.

3. Organization and Implementation of Popular Science Activities

Plan, host or co-organize online and offline events including health popular science forums, public welfare lectures, health tours, popular science competitions and thematic publicity campaigns. Coordinate all GHO professional committees and regional offices to implement various popular science projects.

4. Resource Coordination and Internal & External Collaboration

Integrate popular science resources from medical institutions, research universities, media, public welfare platforms and industrial associations, and promote co-construction and sharing of resources. Recruit volunteer popular science experts and build the GHO Expert Database for Science Popularization. Expand international partnerships and conduct cross-border health education exchanges with health popular science institutions of various countries.

5. Operation of Communication Platforms and Brand Building

Cooperate with the Secretariat to operate new media communication channels for popular science. Build an authoritative GHO brand for health science popularization and promote achievements. Organize collection, selection and exhibition of outstanding health popular science works.

6. Professional Guidance, Supervision and Evaluation

Guide all subordinate branches and professional committees of GHO in conducting science popularization work. Establish an evaluation system for popular science projects, track implementation outcomes, and compile regular work reports and submit them to the Council.

7. Industry Self-regulation and Scientific Fact-checking

Organize expert assessments on online fallacies about health preservation, false medical promotion and pseudoscientific medical information, release scientific clarifications, guide rational medical seeking by the public, and safeguard sound ecosystem of health science communication.

8. Talent Cultivation

Deliver training programs for health science communicators, improve health communication capabilities of medical staff and popular science practitioners, and build an international exchange platform for relevant talents.

9. Other Working

Undertake other work related to health science popularization assigned by the GHO Council.
